The Summer Librarian will assist the Curator in the care, cataloguing, and record keeping of the museum’s extensive local history and genealogy reference library and rare books collection including data entry in the collection database and physical storage optimization. The Summer Librarian will also assist Archives and Library staff with research requests. They will compile finding aids, indexes, and book listings for upload to the Norfolk Historical Society website.

The Curatorial Assistant will assist the Curator in the care, cataloguing, and record keeping of the museum’s collections including data entry in the collection database and physical storage optimization. They will research, design, and install temporary displays using the museum’s reference library and collections. The Curatorial Assistant will also research historical letters and journals from Norfolk County for the upcoming autumn exhibit.

The MacLaren Art Centre seeks a summer student to assist with various curatorial duties. Working closely with the Curator/Registrar, the student will be exposed to a range of tasks, including: organizing an exhibition of Carl Beam prints from the MacLaren’s collection, assisting with exhibition installations and dismantlements, assisting with circulating exhibitions, and researching and drafting justifications for proposed acquisitions.

The MacLaren Art Centre seeks a summer student to assist with various collections duties. Working closely with the Curator/Collections Manager, the student will be exposed to a range of duties, including: researching and writing justifications for new acquisitions, cataloguing books into the internal research library, updating location tags in Mimsy and curating a virtual exhibition on women in the Soviet Union from the Sovfoto Archive at the MacLaren.

Programming: Working under the supervision of Gallery 1C03’s Director/Curator, the Intern will assist with the organization and presentation of a University of Winnipeg faculty, staff, and student exhibition. Tasks include assisting with promotion via social media and other means, assisting with exhibit installation, creating artwork labels, attending the exhibition during public hours of operation, assisting with de-installation of exhibit. The Intern will also organize and carry out a two-day, off-site, educational art workshop or other public program during the Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival as part of a city-wide art gallery public program project.

Collections Management: Working under the supervision of Gallery 1C03’s Director/Curator, the Intern will conduct an inventory of selected works in the collection and carry out on-campus artwork loan requests. Through this process the intern will help the Art Curator identify and prioritize selected pieces for conservation treatment as the University’s budget allows. The Intern will also input appraisal values for those works where that information had not been entered but for which there exist paper records. If time allows, the Intern will assist in the development and distribution of exhibition and copyright release forms for selected works in the collection.

Curatorial Research: The Intern will conduct research on selected artworks in the collection identified by the Director/Curator in preparation for a forthcoming conservation and/or exhibition projects.

Art Collection Library Management: Gallery 1C03 also oversees a small library of publications on contemporary and historical Canadian art. The Intern will accession new titles into the library collection database, and participate in the distribution of the Gallery’s publications to other institutions to make them available to researchers.
